ALMA DANCE COMPANY
ALMA is Spanish for soul, spirit, and heart. Chicago's newest ballet company will embody these very qualities making classical ballet one of the most enjoyable and revered art forms of all times.
With a fresh new outlook, Alma Dance Company will bring the grand classical ballets of Europe and the world to the stages of Chicago. The ballets will be presented in their most original form; original stories, original choreographies, original music - and taken one step further. Alma will merge the ballets with Jazz, Gospel, Latin, the Blues, and more. Live musicians will heighten and enliven the experience.
In presenting the beauty of the classical Ballets with a newer, non-traditional feel, the Alma Dance Company will be approachable and understandable for people of all ages, languages, and cultures. The Alma Dance Company will broaden the public and community interest in classicaly danced ballet.
The founders, Suzanne Lek and Guillermo Levya come to their adoped home of Chicago by way of Wales, Great Britain, and Cuba. Both have very strong backgrounds in Russian Ballet, having worked with and been trained by the best teachers/students in the ballet world. Both have had amazing careers which showcased their strong training and their joy and passion for classical ballet.
They wish to share their excitement, knowledge and experience with the people of Chicago. Their unique approach and the true beauty of classical ballet are the cornerstones of the Alma Dance Company.
